31 Days of DIY Projects. Day Twenty-six: DIY Gold Acorns
Back in August while visiting family in Minnesota I collected a bunch of acorns. I’ve been meaning to paint them gold and finally got around to it this week.
I collected two different kinds of acorns. Unfortunately I had to throw one of them away because I didn’t preserve them. Did you know you have to dry acorns? I didn’t. Makes sense though. So if you go acorn picking, be sure to take the time to dry and preserve them to avoid bugs and such!
Materials needed: Spray paint, newspaper, and acorns.
Step one: Rinse, then soak acorns in cold water for an hour.
Step two: Lay acorns out on a towel and allow to dry for a few hours.
Step three: Bake in the oven at 200°F for two to three hours. Be sure to check on them about every half hour and stir if needed.
Step four: Let cool.
Step five: Lay out newspaper to protect your surface and spray paint your acorns in a well ventilated, open space, and let dry.
