How To Make A DIY Foraged Sticks Holiday Wreath with Winter Greens:
Today’s DIY is all about how to make a wreath from foraged sticks. One of my favorite Holiday traditions has been to make a wreath from gathered greens out at my Grandparents Farm in Minnesota. I get nostalgic just thinking about those years when I lived near them. I loved getting out of the city and escaping to the quiet of their 80 acres in Northern Minnesota. Trekking through the woods, leaving footprints in the snow, gathering up princess pine clippings and then spending the evening by the fire. At times my memories there feel like a Thomas Kincade painting. This DIY Foraged Sticks Holiday Wreath Project wraps up the series as number four of four in our Holiday Foraging series!
Materials needed to make A DIY Foraged Sticks Holiday Wreath with Winter Greens:
Foraged sticks, winter greens, twine or string, gold spray paint, fake snow, white glitter, bird and pine cone embellishments, and a hot glue gun and glue sticks.
Step one: Forage for sticks and gather greens. Tip: See if your local tree farm has free clippings.
Step two: Bind sticks together in the shape of an old fashioned window frame.
Step three: Spray paint with gold spray paint.
Step four: Prop wreath frame standing up and spray fake snow downwards onto it. The goal is to frost the tops of the sticks as if it has been snowed on.
Step five: Sprinkle glitter on top of fake snow immediately after spraying.
Step six: Let dry overnight. (Be very careful not to touch the fake snow as it will indent even when dry.)
Step seven: Use your hot glue gun to glue your greenery on.
Step eight: Add bird and pine cone embellishments. (I borrowed mine from a friend who bought hers at Michael’s.)
Step nine: Hang up your wreath!
I’m so happy with how it turned out! I love the way the fake snow crackled on top of the spray paint. Do you make a holiday wreath every year? I’d love to hear your wreath experiences and memories in the comment below!
